Blog Posts worth noting for the week
This week was little crazy to say the least. I am traveling for work, hopping from one country to another every 2 days. While it sounds really fun (it is most of the time) it is really exhausting. The natural balance and sleep schedule get completely messed up. On top of it the expectation is (not sure if this is of others or myself, maybe both) that all the work I normally do still gets done in addition to this new accountability.
As I would return to my hotel room each evening and try to work on my school assignments and keep up I would stay up longer than I can afford and be tired the next day. The purpose and reason behind what I am doing seems odd to others. They ask and wonder why sustainability? Why an MA? Why not an MBA? Because MBA is not me and MA is. Because I am creative and I like to work with ambiguous figures, not numbers and formulas.
During the day I would get my email notifications from blogs I follow. Of course Seth Godin’s blog just keeps to delight me. One of the recent posts couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. It is called
Technical skills, power and influence
While the title wasn’t too attractive, it does start off with words technical, power and influence in one line. I assumed it would be about the other side (the pro MBA crowd). In reality it was about pioneers, true leaders, underground grassroots efforts by people like you and I who see a value in something that hasn’t been shaped or proven yet. Something that hasn’t taken the mainstream yet.
The post is very brief and first 2 paragraphs read the following:
“When a new technology arrives, it’s often the nerds and the necrophiliacs who embrace it. People who see themselves as busy and important often dismiss the new medium or tool as a bit of a gimmick and then “go back to work.” It’s only a few years later when the people who understand those tools are the ones calling the shots. Because “the work” is now centered on that thing that folks hesitated to learn when they had the chance.”
Reading this post made me feel better again. It may be hard at times to do what I am doing. It may not be popular and mainstream yet, but I know I am doing something to change the status quo and move the needle not just on my own dashboard but everyone eases.
The second blog I follow is the Zen Habits. Of course each time I read a new post I wonder if it is coincidental that the post is in regards to something I am going through or does it just happen that with so much going on we can always find a connecting thread and associate with real life? The post I read was called
A Guide to Getting Good at Dealing with Chaos
The post talks about the chaos in life, unexpected and unplanned things (even planned) that happen and we loose control. Just like my 2 week whirlwind around the world that I am going through right now? How do we sustain? Well Leo Babauta says the answer lies in practice. Practice of letting go and re-centering yourself in the middle of chaos. Is it a coincidence that 2 places on my MAP I’d like to avoid are places of chaos? Is it a coincidence that I chose to measure the quality of input and output of my energy? No. It is not a coincidence, just a happy accident. Moment of growing and learning.
